Charles was born in Shoreditch, London, 3rd quarter of 1868.
In 1871, Charles was living at Shrabland Road, St Leonard, Shoreditch, with parents William S and Caroline nee Cheesly. Charles has two sisters, Caroline born 1862, and Catherine Mary born 1864, also two brothers, Henry Oliver born 1869, and William born 1866.
In 1881, the family had moved to 72, Park Street, Stoke Newington, Hackney. There were four more children, Walter S born 1872, Florence P born 1875, Francis E born 1878, and Amelia E born 1880.
In 1889, Charles married Edith Kaye in Hackney, London.
In 1901, Charles and Edith were living with Edith’s mother, a widow, at 21, Paget Road, Stoke Newington, Hackney. Charles and Edith have a son, Harold C born 1891, and a daughter, Hilda Mary born 1899.
In 1911, the family had moved to 9, The Hawthorns, Regents Park Road, Finchley. Emma Kaye, Edith’s mother was living with them. Two servants lived with them. Charles's occupation was ‘Australian Merchant’.
In 1923, Charles, Edith, and Hilda Mary left the UK aboard the ship Anchises headed for Melbourne, Australia.
In 1928, Charles and Edith left the UK aboard the ship Rotorua headed for Wellington, New Zealand.
19th September 1933, Charles appeared in the newspaper ‘Belfast Telegraph’. The article was concerning ‘a plague of rats and flies’ in North Finchley.
In 1939, Charles and Edith were living at 9 Ballards Lane, Finchley. There was a Yvonne M Syrett, born 1910, living with them. Charles’ occupation was ‘Colonial Export Merchant (Retired)’. Two servants lived with them.
Edith died in Hendon, 1942
In 1944, Charles married Rosalie Minnie Armstrong in Hendon.
11th July 1945, Charles appeared in the ‘Western Morning News.’ ‘Mr. Charles Syrett of Glengareff, New Road, Teignmouth, was among those invested with the insignia of O.B.E.’.
19th July 1946 Charles appeared in the ‘Exeter and Plymouth Gazette’. The article refers to the building of a bridge across the river Dart.
In 1951, Charles died, aged 82.
Rosalie Minnie Syrett died in 1993.
