Robert Orton Gery was born on the 3rd of July 1826 and baptized on the 4th of December 1826 at Daventry, Northamptonshire. His father was Thomas Orton and his mother, Mary.
In 1841, Robert was living and schooling at Dog Lane, Daventry.

30th May 1874, Robert is advertising for a ‘Deputy Surveyor and Inspector of Nuisances’ in the Aberdare Times. ‘Not under 28 years of age or above 45 years of age…’. ‘The Salary will be £130 per annum…’.
29th June 1878, Robert is advertising for a ‘Scavengers, Hauliers and others’ to clear away the refuse, street sweeping, and ashes.
In 1881, Robert and Ellen are living at 3, Gadlys Terrace, Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, Wales.
