John Bartlett Mansfield and his wife, Anne, nee Burgess

 John was born on the 17th of September 1822 at The Cobb, (Lyme Harbour) Lyme Regis, Dorset, and was baptised on the 23rd of September 1822.

In 1835, John’s occupation was listed as ‘Shipbuilder and pilot boat owner’ at Llanelly, Carmarthenshire.

In the 1841 census, both John and his father are listed as Shipbuilders.

On the 15th of December 1847, John married Anne Burgess at Llanelly Parish Church, Carmarthenshire. Anne’s father William was listed as a grocer.

John and Anne’s firstborn, daughter Harriott Emma Mansfield, was born on the 25th of October 1848 at Portsea but died on the 8th of July 1849 at Teignmouth, Devon.

John and Anne had two sons, William Lomer Mansfield born 7th of July 1850, and John Burgess Mansfield born 13th of August 1852, both at Teignmouth, Devon.

John was influential in lobbying the Government to gain independence for Teignmouth Port from Exeter in 1852.

John’s father, John Mansfield died on the 2nd of September 1854 at Lyme Regis, Dorset.

John and Anne had two daughters, Eliza Mary Mansfield born in 1855, and Annie Catherine Mansfield born on the 10th of October 1858, both at Teignmouth, Devon.

In 1858, John’s occupation was listed as, Ship and boat builder at the Strand Ship Building Yard. Also, Block and Mast maker, dealers in paints, oils, and general Ship Chandlery.

John and Anne had another daughter, Ada Maude Mansfield, born 15th of October 1860 but Ada died on the 22nd of October 1860 at Teignmouth, Devon.

John and Anne had a further three sons, Walter born in 1866, George born in 1868, and Robert born in 1869, all born at Teignmouth, Devon.

John’s mother, Eliza Bartlett, died on the 16th of March 1875 at Hawthorne Grove, Seaforth, Liverpool.

John Bartlett Mansfield died on the 18th of July 1879 at Teignmouth, Devon probate was awarded to Anne on the 13th of August 1879, estate under £2000.
