Suicide at Teignmouth
Cemetery Keeper Hangs himself in a Toolhouse
The Evidence at the Inquest.
“Oh! My poor head; I can’t stand this any longer. Good-bye, Helen, - Bill
Good-bye. Do not believe what they say. It do not belong to me. Do not take me away from here. Let me lie until put away. Oh! My poor head.”
The above formed the somewhat strange message left behind by Mr William Westaway, for twenty-two years keeper of the Teignmouth Cemetery, and who was found hanging to a beam in a toolhouse at the Cemetery about nine o’clock on Sunday evening. The news causing much surprise and consternation in the town. Evidently hastily written, the ? communication was on the back of an order from a well-known local firm, folded over once, and then placed on the kitchen table to await the return of deceased’s wife…
