The King and Queen made a trip over from Cowes to Ryde to watch the race for the Prince of Wales's Cup for the International 14 ft. dinghy class. The weather was very rough and the start was postponed for some hours in the hope that the wind would drop. The winner was the well-known builder and designer of boats in the international 14 ft. class, Mr Morgan Giles who had his son, Mr M. C. Morgan Giles, aboard with him. The winner, Catherine, who was only six seconds ahead of the next boat, capsized just after crossing the finishing line.
